On the Lookout
14" x 18", Acrylic on canvas, $400
Sandpipers are not a regular sight on the beach at Port Stanley. You can only find them there for a short time in the spring and fall when they are migrating to or from the Arctic, so it's always a special treat to see them. This little flock of semipalmated sandpipers captured my heart on one beautiful May evening. They were dynamic and full of life, busily running along the shoreline while foraging for food. This painting shows a rare moment when they were all standing still. I wanted to capture some of their individual personalities in this portrait, while also showing their closeness as a group.
